Rotaract Foundation Ball 2020 Part 2

Ready2Read, Ready2Succeed, and Achieve Alabama

The Rotaract Club of Birmingham Foundation held their 15th annual Rotaract Foundation Ball 2020 at Sloss Furnaces.   This year they went back to the Roaring 20's and pretended to be like Mr. Gatsby himself! This black-tie event included food, alcohol, live music and the chance to win prizes. Each year, the Rotaract Club of Birmingham celebrates its impact through the Annual Foundation Ball. All money raised from this event goes towards the Foundation's signature service programs, Ready2Read, Ready2Succeed and Achieve Alabama.  Achieve Alabama, the first free state-wide scholarship database in the country, which was created by the Rotaract Club of Birmingham in collaboration with community partners to provide a readily accessible platform to all Alabama high school students with customized scholarship opportunities attributes and demographics. In just its second year, the database has already accumulated over 27,000 scholarships totaling over $11,000,000,000, and over 155,000 Alabama high school students have already registered for the service.  Ready2Succeed, a mentorship program designed to provide high-achieving local high school students in the Birmingham City School System with guidance, encouragement, and resources to prepare for the college admissions process, from ACT preparation to college tours, to one-on-one counseling with career and higher education professionals as students navigate the college application process in hopes of attaining higher education degrees. Although the program has only been piloted in one Birmingham high school, the model is scalable, and we hope to continue to expand.  Ready2Read, a reading comprehension program that provides a classroom library to second-grade classrooms throughout the Birmingham City School System and promotes literacy, reading comprehension skills, and a love of reading to impressionable and adaptable young minds. Approximately 40 of our members volunteer as reading buddies in these classrooms, and research is underway to further quantify the program’s impact.  Music was provided by: Nationwide Coverage Band  Food was provided by: TreLuna  Ring Bling was provided by: Avani Rupa Fine Jewlers
