Two Sisters, Two Hemispheres, One Shared Passion

With no winemaking legacy to stand on, Robin McBride & Andrea McBride-John set out guided by one set of principles – to build their own wine traditions and place women, culture, cuisine, taste, and lifestyle at the center of a wine experience.

Robin McBride and Andrea McBride-John were raised across the globe from one another in two of the world’s most iconic wine-growing, agricultural, and farming regions – Monterey, California, and Aotearoa, New Zealand. Each thought they were only children until fate united them in 1999. Their discovery of one another, along with a shared love of wine, food, and culture, sparked a creative and entrepreneurial force. In August of 2025, I met with Robin McBride in Oakland, CA, to discuss their new releases and their vision for growth moving forward.

These four wines from two amazing sisters are ultimately changing the face of the wine industry.

> McBride Sisters Collection Red Blend Central Coast

The fruit is sourced from the cool-climate vineyards of California’s Central Coast, where wine grapes have one of the longest growing seasons in the state.  That translates to rich complexity and great texture. Pair with Carne Asada, tacos, cheeseburgers, ribs, or pizza.

> McBride Sisters Collection Sauvignon Blanc

Marlborough, New Zealand

Sunny Marlborough, New Zealand, rules the world when it comes to fresh, juicy Sauvignon Blanc. Your sniff brings tropical fruits, white flowers, and zesty citrus, then things get luscious with a mouthful of passion fruit, mango, fuji apple, and key lime. Bold acidity and a subtle mineral flourish keep you coming back for more. Pair with fresh oysters, sushi, salads with vinaigrette, or stir-fry.

> McBride Sisters Collection, Sparkling Brut Rose

Hawkes Bay, NV

Hawke’s Bay is one of the most prestigious fine wine regions in Aotearoa, New Zealand. This gorgeous bubbly glows with gentle aromas of rose petals, crushed red berries, and strawberries with cream. In the mouth, the red fruit keeps coming with loads of fresh raspberry, cranberry, strawberry, and a bit of juicy peach to round this out. Pair with fried chicken, popcorn, fish and chips, or chips and queso.

> McBride Sisters Collection Reserve Chardonnay

“The Great Escape” Santa Lucia Highlands, California

Escape the yawn of over-oaked California Chardonnay with The Great Escape. In Robin’s own words, “When I was a baby, my mom drove our bright red Volkswagen bug up the Pacific Coast Highway from LA to a small town called Monterey. This is where I fell in love with vineyards and winemaking.” The wine world is a better place thanks to the McBride sisters finding each other and embarking on a fantastic career in wine, together. – Jerome Crawford, Crestline Pig

The McBride Sisters and Jerome Crawford

I’ve been extraordinarily fortunate to stand on the shoulders of some giants. International Wines, which holds the oldest wholesale license in Alabama, gave me my first job in the wine business. Western Supermarkets, which was the first grocery store to sell wine in Alabama was my first job in wine retail. We all know that Piggly Wiggly, where I currently work, was a pioneer in the self-service aspect of grocery.

Lastly, and most significant to this piece, I’ve had the profound honor to work with Jerome Crawford for the past 30 years. Jerome has been a trailblazer in the Birmingham, and Alabama, wine scene for the past <redacted, but more than 30> years. Working with Jerome has been one of the absolute blessings of my professional life. I shudder to think where the wine scene in Birmingham would be without him, his knowledge, his wisdom, his expertise, and his experience. These sisters have made a big impression on Jerome. I’ll promise you this – if Jerome is impressed, that is a significant compliment.
