“The idea for the shop came from the growing number of young adult business owners in Birmingham and the lack of clothing stores fitting that demographic,” said Mallory Barnett, Elements c-owner and curator of style. “The amount of local artists also helps because it gives them a place to showcase their work. It’s a win-win for both parties.”

Mallory and her partner/co-owner, Johnnie Shaneyfelt, have been working on making their dream of Elements a reality for the past two years.

“We used to run a stall at Urban Suburban area,” Johnnie stated, “it was a great way to build our brand and gain some insight into what people wanted.”

Currently, Elements offers an array of locally made items from handmade jewelry and leather goods to a natural, honey based skincare product named City Bee. The shop also offers a collection of The Mountain clothing line, which Johnnie began collecting throughout his travels across the U.S. You know them as the giant animal faces printed on tie-dyed t-shirts. They’re all the craze.

Although the shop has a large amount of apparel and accessories, the two owners have plans to expand their selection in the near future. Elements shop opened in late June and has been a welcome addition to the Shoppes of Crestwood family.

Elements is located at 5502B Crestwood Boulevard and is open 10am - 6pm Tuesday through Saturday, 1 - 5pm Sunday and closed Monday. You can contact the store at 205-201-5485 and email at elementsbhm@gmail.com. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram at ElementsBhm. Their new website is www.elementsbhm.com
