More than 7.6 billion people currently live on planet Earth. They come from all walks of life, speak different languages, and experience an endless variety of complex issues, daily joys, and delicious dishes. While the things that distinguish us from each other are beautiful, it makes it even more impressive when something breaks through and captures the hearts of every single person on the floating space rock we call home. Egg rolls are perhaps the finest example of this great unity. Many believe the first egg roll was made in a Chinese American restaurant after being inspired by mainland Chinese dishes. But no matter when it started, there is no doubt of its impact on present day stomachs.
Birmingham has no shortage when it comes to the egg roll. Beloved restaurants in the city including New China Town and China Master include cherished takes on the popular side item to pair nicely with the rest of their fine menus. As wonderful as these options are, some Magic City restaurants elevate this magic to a new level with their creative takes. Philly cheese steaks, jambalaya dishes, and more can be found in Birmingham egg rolls. We share where to find them here.
Cheesesteak Egg Rolls and Fries from T-Bone’s
If you want a classic Philly cheesesteak in Birmingham, there’s one place to go–T-Bone’s Authentic Philly Style Cheesesteaks and Hoagies. Their popular classic style is met by a wide variety of other delicious options like the Irie, Pizza, and Mexicali cheesesteaks. Massive burgers, hoagies, salads, wraps, and even ranch fries are also great selections, but one of the restaurant’s most recent additions has them all beat. The cheesesteak egg rolls are a flavor combination that the world didn’t know it needed, but will never be the same after trying. Innovation creates a brighter world, and T-Bone’s has brought new light to the Magic City.
Jambalaya Egg Rolls from Hotbox
Hotbox doesn’t follow one path when it comes to creating the perfect menu to partner with the beers found at their Good People Brewing home. The Jambalaya egg rolls are one of the most recent additions to this all-star food selection, and it has been a hit from day one. The concept was first thought of at Hotbox’s sister-company of sorts The Rougaroux (who you will read more about soon!) and quickly found a permanent home with the cornhole boards and cool merch at GP Brewing across from the Barons.
Zombie Egg Rolls
The kitchen at Rougaroux, led by Amanda Campbell, has built a reputation for exciting menu items and bar items. Their Jambalaya egg roll now calls Hotbox home, but the zombie egg roll is now featured at Rougaroux on select days. Caramelized onions, red bell peppers, crawfish, sharp white cheddar cheese, and a whole lotta seasonings and hot sauce are featured in this explosion of flavor. “It’s just a really nice spicey, cheesy, crawfishy goodness,” commends Amanda, adding that a special pepper syrup goes with it for dunking sauce, combining spicy flavors with a soothing richness. Follow the Rougaroux bar’s Instagram to stay updated on the daily specials!
Egg rolls are clearly one of the key ingredients to keeping the world at peace, and Birmingham’s entrepreneurial chefs ensure that the city stays supplied with delicious options of this favorite food. Get out and support local, Birmingham!
