Why should you go low? Low-impact workouts are defined as weight-bearing movements where one foot stays on the ground, placing less stress on the body and reducing the risk of injury. Here are just a few reasons that low impact training is the way to go!
1. FOR EVERYONE. EVERY DAY.
Whether you’re 27 or 72, anyone can participate in low impact, high intensity training every day! If you’re new to fitness, low impact training allows you to train without stressing your joints, encouraging you to go back and do it again. If you’re already a fitness enthusiast, it’s beneficial to add low impact training to your routine. It will strengthen and support your joints, which can improve your speed, flexibility, and endurance. Different forms of low impact training can include free weights, resistance bands, TRX straps and your own body weight.
2. HELPS WITH WEIGHT LOSS.
Don’t be fooled: "low impact" in no way means "low effort." You can still raise your heart rate and metabolism to burn calories and fat without the jarring impact. Many low impact exercises involve strength training. As your lean muscle increases, so does your resting metabolism, helping you to burn more calories all day long.
3. INCREASES CORE STRENGTH AND BALANCE.
Low impact resistance training increases your muscle strength and endurance by making your muscles work against a weight or force. As you increase resistance, your core will have to do more work to stabilize. A strong core improves your balance and posture and reduces stress and pain in your lower back, and improves your performance in all types of physical activities.
4. ASSISTS IN CREATING A BALANCED LIFESTYLE.
Exercise releases endorphins which are known to create feelings of happiness, relieve stress and mental tension, and decrease symptoms of depression. When you are less stressed and your muscles are fatigued, you will typically sleep better and have a calmer spirit overall. Not to mention, as you continue to see results from your workout, you will feel more confident! Low impact exercise tends to leave you feeling rejuvenated, instead of beat up, giving you a boost for the rest of your day! 5. GIVES YOU “STICK WITH IT” POWER.People who train using low impact, high intensity exercise are more likely to stick with it. While impact exercises can be a great addition to your routine, low impact movements reduce your risk for injury and can help rehabilitate current injuries. It is also a mindful way to train because it brings awareness to the muscles you are working. You see tangible results as you stick with it, and can participate as many days a week as your schedule permits.
