Super Bowl Sunday is nearly here! Only a few days of the year bring friends and family together for such an eventful time of eating, talking trash, and actually enjoying commercial watching like this hallowed February ritual. We huddle around televisions to wish our chosen team - Kansas City or the Philadelphia Eagles - a victorious time on the football field. The sport’s biggest stars will be on the field and we even get to witness a halftime performance by the legendary Rihanna. Many aspects to this day of celebratory competition are thankfully beyond our control - our main job is to simply enjoy the festivities. But food is one area that requires a little planning ahead. Do you want to go with wings or burgers or tacos or barbeque? Maybe a little of all the above! The good news for Birminghamians is that no matter what game time feast you desire, our restaurants are ready to provide it for you! Here are a few Super Bowl deals we are most looking forward to.
Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint
The good people at Martin’s Bar-B-Que in Cahaba Heights are going all out for the Super Bowl! You can eat and watch the game at the restaurant or place your pickup order online to take home and enjoy in the comfort of your home. They are loaded on Southern delicacies including appetizers (smoked wings, fried chicken fingers, hush puppies, deviled eggs, pimento cheese and chips, and a veggie tray), meats by the pound (spared rib rack, pulled pork, brisket, whole chicken, smoked turkey), sides (broccoli salad, baked beans, green beans, mac & cheese, potato salad, slaw, country salad, farmer’s salad), desserts (banana pudding, coconut cake, strawberry cake, fudge pie, pecan pie, chocolate chip cookies), and drinks (sweet tea, unsweet tea, lemonade).
A-Train
A-Train has long been a Magic City favorite when it comes to food trucks and recently expanded its brand with the addition of its first brick-and-mortar location! The restaurant will be selling specials that feature two of its most popular menu items - wings and quesadillas - for the Super Bowl. All options include 20 quesadilla slices with wing count options being 30, 50, 75, and 100. In other words, A-Train is a fantastic option no matter how many people are attending your party.
Fat Charles
It seems that the culinary geniuses behind Fat Charles wake up every day with the sole intention of seeing how they can provide the absolute tastiest meals for the people of Birmingham. Following their social media accounts is like following a modern-day Willy Wonka - except instead of candy the creative edibles are made of brisket, tacos, and all sorts of other delicious meaty meals. Their fun streak sees another victory as they prepare to satisfy the city's stomachs this Super Bowl. All three food pack options are $100. You can choose between 20 tacos and 30 wings, 30 OG tacos, or 30 birria tacos.
Tuff Love Provisions
While Fat Charles can be found at Avondale Brewery most Wednesdays (along with a great movie night series), Tuff Love Provisions is the food truck empire most often found at this 51st Street location. Tuff Love is known for their delicious eats, and is showcasing a stellar menu to celebrate the Super Bowl. They will be having a Burgers Or Die/Killer Dawgs pop-up series that features references to both teams. Burger options include the Korean Burger (kimchi slaw, Korean ketchup, spicy mayo, Asian pickles, and pepper jack), the Otis Burger (Otis sauce, dirty ranch, sauteed onions, pickle, cheddar, and pepper jack), The Jammie Jam (red onion jam, warm bacon jam, tomato jam, cheddar, pickled jalapeno pimento). Hot dog options include the Kansas City Dog (coleslaw, smoked pork, and red sauce), Philly Dog (sauteed onions and peppers, garlic/provolone cheese sauce, thinly sliced steak), and the Chili/Cheezy Dog (homemade chili, cheddar cheese sauce, Burger Or Die onions, and mustard aioli).
No matter where or what you choose to eat for the big game - the important part is that you’re creating a special moment with great friends and great food. That sounds like a W to me!
