Beyond Blue

The Mike Slive Foundation brought the spotlight to Prostate Cancer Awareness Month with a wonderful event, which raised money for prostate cancer research and honored Hatton Smith, a community leader and prostate cancer survivor. The event was held at UAB’s Alys Stephens Center where the Foundation hosted the annual benefit Beyond Blue (formerly called I'm With Mike), presented by Medical Properties Trust.  ESPN and SEC Network reporter Laura Rutledge was this year’s emcee of the event. Guests visited with sporting luminaries and enjoyed hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, and a silent and live auction with unique sports experiences and memorabilia.  This year, the Mike Slive Foundation honored Hatton Smith, a prostate cancer survivor and tireless promoter of Birmingham. CEO emeritus of Royal Cup Co., Smith’s professional and personal philanthropy is enriching the social fabric of our community. He was instrumental in the fundraising efforts that built the Rotary Trail, revived UAB’s football program, and materialized plans for BJCC’s Protective Stadium. Smith is an executive committee member of the Birmingham Business Alliance. Additionally, Smith sits on the Birmingham-Southern College board and the Mike Slive Foundation board and advises many local nonprofits.
