Hand in Paw's 23rd annual auction and gala, Picasso Pets, helps bring Animal-Assisted Therapy to those who need it most. The country-western-themed gala took place on Saturday, August 17, from 6-10 p.m. at The Harbert Center. Picasso Pets is Hand in Paw’s signature fundraiser, ensuring Animal-Assisted Therapy services can be delivered at no charge to more than 70 facilities across north central Alabama and Tuscaloosa.
The evening started with a chic cocktail reception featuring delicious signature Tito’s Vodka cocktails, wine, hors d’oeuvres, a wine pull, a photo booth, auction item previews, and more. Following the reception, guests enjoyed the official debut of our 2024 Picasso Pets paintings. These paintings are created by prominent local artists who work with patrons and their pets to create exceptional commissioned pieces that are treasured for a lifetime. A live auction and seated dinner added to the evening's excitement, and Hand in Paw Therapy Teams interacted with guests throughout the evening. Lisa McNair emceed the program. Bob Straka was the auctioneer.
The 2024 Picasso Pets theme was “Wild, Woof, West!” Wrangler Duncan and the late, beloved therapy dog, Ryder, are this year's Face of Picasso Pets. Connie Collum photographed the dogs, and artist Thomas Andrew created a spectacular cowboy-themed painting from those photographs. Wrangler and Ryder are the pets of long-time Hand in Paw volunteers Tracy and Bob Duncan. Guests were encouraged to wear country-western cocktail attire to match the theme.
Picasso Pets is a celebration of animals’ amazing ability to heal, help people have a brighter day, and realize their potential. All funds raised enable Hand in Paw’s mission to improve human health and well-being through Animal-Assisted Therapy.
