For over 100 years, Linly Heflin has been awarding college scholarships to Alabama women. This year, approximately 100 women will receive scholarships of $10,000 per year for up to four years to pursue an undergraduate degree at an Alabama college or university. Many of these women are the first in their family to attend college. Recipients of the Linly Heflin scholarships must demonstrate a strong academic foundation and a critical need for financial support.
Linly Heflin Unit was founded in 1919 as a women’s service organization.
In our earliest days, we rolled bandages for World War I soldiers, and assisted at Children’s Hospital. Since 1923, our focus has been to further the education of young women in Alabama by funding partial college scholarships for women attending Alabama colleges and universities. To this day we remain 100% volunteer based with no paid staff and extremely low overhead.
Over the years we have been able to increase the size of our scholarships and the number of scholarships we award. In the 2019-20 school year, we supported nearly 100 women and gave away approximately $700,000 in scholarships ( I will get you more updated information. This was just what I copied from our website). Since 1923, we have funded more than 3,000 scholarships totaling around $6,000,000.
