Birmingham’s college football team is ready for a strong 2022 season. The UAB Blazers finished 2nd in the C-USA West division last year, ending with an impressive victory over a ranked BYU opponent in the Independence Bowl. The mighty Green and Gold have at least one major change to consider with their opening game, as longtime Head Coach Bill Clark retired over the summer after eight successful seasons with the program. Our hometown heroes are in good hands in the interim, with Clark’s former Offensive Coordinator Bryant Vincent taking the central command post for a team who is familiar with his take on the game. Here are a few things to know about how to take in the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Opening Game.
Watching Live
The game begins at 7pm Central Time at Birmingham’s Protective Stadium. This will be the second season that the Blazers play at Uptown’s new entertainment hub, which has also hosted the World Games, Garth Brooks, and other massive moments in its relatively short existence. UAB is playing another state school in the Alabama A&M Bulldogs, so tailgating and pre-game festivities are bound to occur. Showing up early is recommended for both parking and enjoying the highlights of an opening day at your home city. Parking and tailgate lots open at 1pm, so there is plenty of time before the game. You can still purchase lower-level tickets online for $20, and there will be fireworks after the show.
Other Ways To Tune In
The Blazers will be playing in front of thousands of hometown fans, but not everyone can make the game (or prefers tuning in from the comfort of their home). The CBS Sports Network has everything taken care of. The game will be shown on the CBS Sports channel, as well as live-streamed on the app and website. Fans of radio broadcasts can tune in to Jox 94.5 FM to listen. We would wager many local restaurants and bars will be showing the game as well.
It’s exciting to have college football in the Magic City, and this Alabama showdown is a fun way to start off the season!
