The Mardi Gras season is sadly wrapping up, and Birmingham has had more fun than ever before celebrating the festivities that come with this fun holiday. We’ve already had a chicken parade, plenty of drink and king cake specials, and lots of parties to join in on the jubilee. While things are winding down, we still have the biggest day of the holiday to celebrate - Fat Tuesday! The Magic City doesn’t disappoint when it comes to this day of fun, with the city planning events and local businesses pushing the festivities to an even higher height. Here are a few of the biggest celebrations to look forward to.
Mardi Gras Parade (Downtown)
There’s nothing like a parade to celebrate this unique holiday and the Magic City is hosting a fun one! The City of Birmingham’s social media pages announced a Mardi Gras Parade that will begin at 11am near Railroad Park at Morris Avenue and 14th Street while ending at 14th Street North and 9th Avenue North. The parade is supposed to last around 45 minutes and there are plenty of great spots along the path including the Boutwell Auditorium parking deck.
Crawfish Celebration (Avondale Brewing)
Avondale Brewing is celebrating Fat Tuesday with all of the best things. The brewery will have Red Mountain Crawfish selling food beginning at 4pm, with Tuff Love and Fat Charles joining in on the fun at 6pm. There will also be music sets from Will Cash and Desmond Sykes to add even more fun to the festivities.
Mardi Bras 2023 (Jack Brown’s)
Jack Brown’s is known for many things. Among those are uniquely fantastic burgers, a great beer selection, and some of the most entertaining interior design decorations you’ll find in the Magic City. Part of the decorative fun is the medley of bras that are hanging from the various chandeliers and fixtures that are overhead - but did you know that they serve a wholesome purpose? Every year on Fat Tuesday, the restaurant donates $5 to Forge Breast Cancer Survivor Center for every bra donated and $1 for every Abita sold.
There is no wrong way to get your Fat Tuesday celebration on, especially in the Magic City! Grab some friends, make some new ones, and have a great time.
